L. P. Perera received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Systems & Controls from the Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA, in 1999 and 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2012, respectively. He has won Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology in 2008 and 2012. Currently, he is a Research Scientist at the Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (MARINTEK), Trondheim, Norway and his research interests include Maritime and Offshore Systems, Instrumentation, Intelligent Guidance & Control, Condition Monitoring and Condition based Maintenance, Energy Efficiency, Safety, Risk and Reliability.
He works with the sub project 1 – Fuels : Alternative fuels and technologies to meet IMO Tier III, focus on HFO, MGO and LNG. Various data sets that are collected by vessels with respect to their fuel consumption will be evaluated under this project. That consists of developing data analytics to capture ship performance under full economic conditions, where technical and environmental due diligence of the alternative fuels and abatements technologies will also be investigated.
